Breakfast in Saigon
Food.MMMmmmm!
Miss Le runs the office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She escorted me to some local sights this morning with the company driver. Before we started, she asked if I had breakfast and if I wanted American or Vietnamese. Knowing she would not steer me wrong, we went to "PHO 24" a noodle restaurant near the office.
She ordered a traditional Vietnamese breakfast of noodles with beef in a broth. It is served with fresh onions, shallots, mint leaves (very mild), and a green garnish. A squeeze from a slice of fresh lime is added to the dish. A black bean sauce and a hot pepper sauce is served with the meal. The fresh vegetables are added to the noodles then a small dab of sauces are added and stirred in. The dish is very hot. The fresh vegetables soften from the broth and steam.
She ordered fresh coconut juice. I have had it before, but it was particularly sweet tasting. But, not sugar sweet. Delicious!
