Seeing the HCM Sites
During our sightseeing excursion, Miss Le took me to a Catholic Church, a government building from the French colonial era, the Presidential/ King's Palace, the War Remnant Museum, and a KFC.
The Catholic Church was preparing for English Sunday Mass. There were many people coming to worship. We were able to stand in the back of church and take a few pictures.
The French Colonial building is a public building housing postal and other government departments. I bought postcards and sent them to the kids. It will take 3 to 4 weeks for the cards to get home. I will be home long before they arrive.
The Presidential palace was particularly meaningful. The images of Americans and South Vietnamese being airlifted from the roof top are remembered. It is a part of a recent historical event. It is hard to imagine how the people felt at the end of the war. How desperate many of them were to leave.
The War Museum was a very sobering display of the carnage of war. It is horrific what humans can do to one another.
We did all this by lunch time. The traffic was lighter than during the week. There were many people at these sites, because many have Sunday off of work. It is International Woman's Day and many street vendors were offering flowers for sale. We had a quick bite at a KFC on the top floor of Diamond department store. There are video games, loud music, a small bowling alley, and fast food restaurants.
NOTE: There is an additional post today about breakfast.
