Day Trip - Part 2 "The Great Walmart of China"
Yes, A Walmart in China is the same but different. They have the bins of movies, racks of soft drinks, and stacks of diapers. But there are butcher's in the aisle ways, bags of funky vegetables, and lots of bicycles and books.
The Walmart is in a big shopping area with a lot of people. The store is multilevel with a ramp for shopping carts descending from L3 to L2. It was crowded with families buying stuff. I bought a bottle of water and snickers bar for 12.80 RMB ($2.00). After some comparison shopping, it looks like there are no bargains. Meaning the prices are similar to US prices in conversion of currency. For locals it may be expensive or cheap based on their income level.
The other department store seemed expensive. But I am no shopper, so I don't know for sure. There were fewer shoppers in the other store. The shopping malls were also multilevel. The different franchise stores are close together without walls between. In some areas the lesser stores are in booths. Mostly young people clothing.
