Circumnavigation Paused

My circumnavigation has been paused due to snow and cold weather in Detroit Sunday.

This is my eighth trip to Asia. The itinerary includes stops in Manila, Saigon, Surabaya, New Delhi, and London. Airports as follows: Charlotte, Detroit, Nagoya, Manila, Saigon, Singapore, Surabaya, Singapore, New Delhi, Jodphur, New Delhi, Amsterdam, London, Atlanta, Charlotte. January 7 through January 27, 2014. First time around the world.

India is a new country for me. I am the first person from my USA company to visit. The New Delhi travel guides emphasize chaos and crowds. A recent traveler to the Subcontinent shared his insights. And people know people who have visited India and had bad experiences. They share second or third hand accounts and their sympathy for my plight. But it also looks like no other place visited before. Multicultural to the nth degree. Rich and poor and very poor. More religions and gods than a stick can be shaken at. (No mention of Druids, but you never know.)

Sunday, I was dropped off at the airport curb due a hard cold rain in Charlotte. My family headed home.  I got to the Delta check in counter only to find out the Charlotte to Detroit flight was had a two hour delay. And with only a one hour layover to connect with the Detroit to Manila flight, there was no point in going any further.

Luckily a colleague had his spouse wait in the cellphone lot until something was worked out. We re-booked for Wednesday. They gave me a ride home. As a matter of fact, they got me home only moments before my family arrived home. We saw my family enter the driveway from down the street.

A Tuesday flight is scheduled, but the weather looks bad. We will see.
